What happened in this war?
There are various great wars which have been fought in the history. These wars teach us valuable lessons. Here i would like to narrate about an interesting war which i know about.
This is none other than saragarhi war which happened in 1897. Actually, it was a battle between british sikh regiment and afghans. This war happened because afghans wanted control of saragarhi fort as it was a key fort in the area and it was believed that who had the access of this fort will control peshawar area.
i am a sikh and i came to know about this war from my grandfather, after i visited saragarhi sikh shrine at ferozepur. he told me the story of 21 brave sikh soldiers who fought against 10000 mughal soldiers.
Actually, commanding British officers were cunning and they knew that they can not safeguard this fort so they did not send any help to these soldiers and betrayed their own regiment; however, they told sikh soldiers to leave the post and run away but the soldiers decided to stay.
They showed wisdom and valor and they asked britishers to send more soldiers for that they needed to keep the fort safe for 6 hours, there 21 soldiers fought 10000 soldiers and kept the place safe for this time, even though no extra help was sent but the bravery of these soldiers became famous throughout the world. i am proud to be a sikh as in my religion sacrifice is given priority over personal interests. all in all this was the most interesting war i heard about
