11.) Describe a person you know who is from a
different culture
You should say:
- Who he/she is
- Where he/she is from
- How you knew him/her
- And explain how you feel about him/her
Every place has its own culture and customs which are an essential part of one's life. India is a diverse country with a plethora of cultural diversity. We meet many people in our life and here I would tell you about my friend from a different culture.
The name of my friend is hitesh and i met him at Doon valley cambridge school zira. He is a South Indian, and he came here because his father was transferred from tiruvanantpuram, his father is an ias officer who is district magistrate of our town.
We became friends as he only spoke English and i was the only kid in class who could speak fluently. Moreover my nature is friendly too. I asked him a lot of questions as i was curious to know about him. After a few days he invited me to his house and they had so many differences in things the way they did things. They actually never took lethar footwear inside the house and they ate on the floor on banana leaves. Moreover they had turmeric and sandal paint on their doors.
I felt really strange at first but then i felt these differences were actually good, we north indians can also do these things and it would save the environment and make our life really peaceful too.
Follow ups
1 Where and how can we get to know people of different cultures better?
I think social platforms such as Facebook, Reddit, and Instagram are great ways to connect
with people from different cultures. Here people from different cultures can discuss like-minded
ideas and interests; However, the traditional way to learn about a different culture would be to read
books related to it, watch movies, or maybe travel to that place.
2 What are the advantages and disadvantages of cultural diversity?
Every coin has two sides so has cultural diversity. On the positive side we can see innovation and creativity as a result of differences and on the negative side we can see hooliganism and violence because small issues can spark communal violence.
How can traditional culture and other cultures coexist?
For different cultures to co-exist together, especially traditional and modern, it requires a lot of effort
from the members of the society. Followers of both cultures should show respect and understanding for each other and should not indulge in any activities that could hurt each other’s sentiments. Also, I feel that the generation gap plays a huge role in traditional and modern culture, and narrowing it down can help both cultures to co-exist peacefully.
Which Indian traditions are disappearing?
The negative ones like dowry and female foeticide, with the world becoming a global village the governments of the world are helping each other to create a positive world.
